Leonardo Da Vinci was described as the archetype of the “Renaissance man”, a man whose seemingly infinite curiosity was equalized only by his powers of invention. He was not only one of the greatest painters of all time,  but he was also an engineer.

Leonardo di ser Piero da Vinci was an Italian polymath, having been a scientist, mathematician, engineer, inventor, anatomist, sculptor, botanist, musician and writer.

As an engineer, Leonardo’s ideas were vastly ahead of his time. He conceptualized a helicopter, a tank, concentrated solar power, a calculator, the double null and outlined a rudimentary theory of plate tectonics. Few of his designs were constructed or were even feasible during his lifetime. Some of his smaller inventions like an automated bobbin winder and a machine for testing the tensile strength of wire, entered the world of manufacturing unheralded.

It is primarily as a painter that Leonardo was and is renowned. Two of his works, The Monalisa and The Last Supper occupy unique positions as the most famous, most reproduced and most religious painting of all the time.

Famous Works of Leonardo Da Vinci include:

  • The Last Supper – 1498
  • Monalisa
  • Drawings of Water Lifting Devices
  • Vitruvian Man
  • Self Portrait

When it comes to writing, Leonardo Da Vinci’s main focus was on simplicity, silence, poetry, learning and success. Some of them are:

“Simplicity is the Ultimate Sophistication.” tweet

“Nothing strengthens authority so much as silence.” tweet

“Once you have tasted flight, you will forever walk the earth the earth with your eyes turned skyward, for there you have been, and there you will always long to return.” tweet

Indeed, Leonardo Da Vinci is a great inspiration. He is still a very big competition for those who want to achieve the tag of  “The Supreme Genius Of All Ages.”

“The greatest tribute an artist can give to any artist is by imitating his artwork.” tweet
